Product Overview

iGrow Carpet Winter Ready Pro 6-8-10 + 4% MgO + 2% CaO

A feed built for the cold months. As the soil cools, the last thing your lawn wants is a big hit of nitrogen pushing out soft, leafy growth, because that's exactly the growth that gets battered by frost and picked off by disease. This does the opposite. It toughens the grass up and keeps colour through winter. Iron-free, so no orange staining on paths or drives. Safe for kids and pets when used as directed.

The science bit

Nitrogen (6% N): Kept low on purpose. Just enough to hold colour over winter without forcing the soft top growth that struggles in the cold.

Phosphorus (8% P): Feeds root development. Top growth slows right down in winter, but roots keep working away below the surface, and a stronger root system now sets the lawn up for spring.

Potassium (10% K): The one doing the heavy lifting here. It strengthens the plant's cell walls and improves tolerance to frost, cold and disease. In plain English, it's the grass equivalent of putting a coat on before heading outside.

Magnesium (4% MgO): Sits at the centre of the chlorophyll molecule, which is what keeps grass green. It holds colour through the dull months when most lawns go pale.

Calcium (2% CaO): Adds to that cell-wall strength and helps the other nutrients work efficiently rather than getting locked up in the soil.

How To Apply Our Fertiliser

  1. Measure your lawn using our lawn measurement tool
  2. Set your spreader as per its instructions
  3. Use a spreader for even coverage — do not apply by hand
  4. Do not apply in frost
  5. Keep children and pets off the lawn during and after application until watered in and dry
  6. Apply at 30 grams per m² for best results (the product can be applied at between 25-35g per m²)
  7. Blow or brush any product off hard surfaces afterwards
  8. Water in thoroughly for 15 to 20 minutes, or leave if at least 20 minutes of steady rain is forecast within 24-48 hours. The sooner it's watered in, the faster it gets to work

Want to get the best results? Our free Beginners Guide to Fertilising Your Lawn covers everything from spreader settings to professional application techniques.

Q: When should I apply it?
From autumn through winter to harden the lawn off against the cold. Avoid frozen ground and don't apply in frost.

Q: How much do I need?
Our fertiliser can be applied at 25 to 35 grams per m². We recommend 30 grams per m² as the ideal rate as it gives great results while allowing for a little overlap around edges. Use our lawn measurement tool on the website to calculate exactly how many bags you need based on your lawn size.

Q: How quickly will I see results?
This one isn't about a fast green-up. Growth is slow in winter, so most of the work is happening below the surface, strengthening the plant and protecting it against the cold. You'll see the real payoff in how well the lawn comes through winter and into spring.

Q: Will it stain my patio or driveway?
It shouldn't as our granular products are iron free. That said, it's always best to brush or blow any product off hard surfaces, just to be safe.

Q: How long does it last?
[CONFIRM from the GreenBest spec before publishing]

Q: Do I need a spreader?
Yes as a spreader gives you even coverage and prevents patchy results. Hand spreading isn't recommended.

Q: What spreader setting should I use?
This varies by spreader model and walking speed. We have a quick start guide on the learning hub.

Q: Can I apply it in the rain?
Light rain after applying is fine and will help water it in. Avoid applying to frozen ground, or just before very heavy rain that could wash the product off before it has a chance to work.

Q: What if I accidentally over-apply?
Water the area thoroughly to dilute the product and reduce the risk of any scorch. If frost is forecast, wait for milder conditions before watering in.

Q: Is it safe for kids and pets?
Yes, once it's settled and dry. Grazing pets like rabbits and guinea pigs should be kept off for two weeks or three cuts, whichever comes first.
